Welcome to Deasy Elementary School

Each morning at Deasy, we open our doors to four hundred and thirty children in grades preK-2 who arrive with a wonderfully diverse assortment of talents, backgrounds and points of view.  We welcome them into a safe and supportive community dedicated to knowing them as individuals and fostering their learning and growth.

Our curriculum empowers our students to become confident, enthusiastic and reflective investigators of the world around them.  Whether it's through falling in love with reading, wrestling with a compelling math problem, exploring the natural world in and around Glen Cove, or interviewing members of our community to learn about their work and lives, our students encounter new ideas, ask their own questions, and become problem solvers of all kinds.

There is much for children to look forward to each day at Deasy.  It might be coming to Discovery Cove - our technology-rich open learning space designed to support collaborative work and play, or working outdoors in our school's beautiful vegetable garden, or taking a field trip to settings such as Garvies Point, the Oysterbay Waterfront Center, the Nassau County Museum of Art, or any of the many other local settings that regularly receive our classes as guests.  Visitors can be regularly seen within our walls as well.  These may include teaching artists from the Tilles Center for Performing Arts, entertainer-educators who offer thrilling assemblies at our school, and youth performance troupes from around the world.  We are particularly delighted by the steady stream of parents and community members who come into our classrooms to share their expertise and personal experiences with our students.  But above all, children look forward to spending the day with our remarkably talented teachers.  Newly minted or veteran, our teachers share a dedication to their craft and to meeting the needs of each child with whom they work.

We are also extremely fortunate to have so many warm and caring parents at Deasy.  Whether it is our PTA's tireless work to provide special events and programs for students and families, or the many parents who volunteer time as class parents, event chairs, or helping hands throughout the year, or the greater still numbers of parents who reserve time every day to read to their children at home, and give them a happy balance of homework and play after school, it is our partnership with parents that provides the foundation for all that we do and that makes Deasy a wonderful and joyous place to come to every day.
